New Year’s Resolutions are POINTLESS!

That’s right - those resolutions we make with ourselves after the holidays and before New Year’s they’re POINTLESS. Typically they only serve to show us that once again we’ve missed the mark and fell short of what we wanted to happen and change in our lives. If you’re like most then your resolution list each year is simply a copy of what you’ve written throughout the previous decade. It’s filled with wishes like: get in shape and lose weight; spend more time with my family; get a better job; repair the run-down things around the house; and so on. So, why do we do go through the pain-staking process of writing down our resolutions each year, do really great on them the first two weeks and then it’s all back to “normal?” Why do we torture ourselves and follow the “herd.”

It’s because we DO want to see resolutions move from the list to RESOLVED! It’s not a lack of desire but rather a lack of habit! Desire alone is NEVER enough! Consider the smoker who wants to stop smoking. Sure, they have the desire, but that desire alone does not bring about the change in mindset and action.

The cure for the common resolution list is a firm understanding and living that THINGS WILL NOT CHANGE UNLESS WE CHANGE! That’s right—YOU must change in order for other things to change. Your habits must shift to be reflective of the WHO that you want to become and THEN the results WILL change! You attract into your life whatever you give your attention, energy and focus, whether wanted or unwanted.

Take for example the most common resolution about getting in shape. The formula is simple (desire): spend more calories than you consume. SIMPLE! How does that look habitually? Your lifestyle (habits) must change. You must create the space in your day (perhaps less TV?) to give you that 30 minutes or an hour in order TO exercise and be fit. Your grocery list must change from processed, quickie foods to wholesome and nutrient - dense fruits, veggies, and lean meats. At first you’re likely to crave sugar and salt laden foods of your past, but if you just stick with it, your “cravings” will shift and you’ll feel more satisfied.

Yes, I know, it’s a LOT! The only task is thus deciding if you truly want it bad enough! NOTHING is impossible when habits are matched with consistency. You have to change in order for things to change. The fastest and most effective way to invoke change is to find another person who wants what you want and then partner together for the BEST you both desire! You can hold one another accountable, share ideas and strategies for moving forward at a quicker pace, have fun with one another and relish in each other’s victories. It’s a great plan! I’d love to assist you and support you for your best year EVER!! Create New Steps for Healing

As one of the newest members of the Sea Change Wellness Team, I am here to share with you my personal experiences that have led me to a higher sense of healing.

The last seven years of my life have been spent in Europe, more specifically, Switzerland. In addition to learning a new culture and new languages in such a beautiful country, a good friend and colleague of mine introduced me to Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) and Somato Respiratory Integration (SRI).

Once introduced to NSA and SRI I was immediately intrigued and have spent the last seven years learning, studying and applying these revolutionary wellness methods. I have always known that the body was more than just the sum of its parts and when I started to truly connect with myself this became even more apparent.

NSA and SRI allow for a keen awareness of what is happening in your body, not only the physical body, but also the emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. This awareness develops and grows as tension is released from the body, spine and nervous system creating more safety and ease. Increasing awareness is integral to healing and wellness. If you don’t know where your tension is being held, it is impossible to release it and move to a healthier and more preferable state of being.

I was first and foremost a receiver of this care. As I traveled further on my wellness and healing path, I discovered different habits that I had developed. For example the way I would emotionally react to certain situations, usually with anger or defensiveness. When things would get tough for me or discouraging not only would I react in anger, I would also retreat and use my body as a shield by overeating, not moving my body, turning off the world by watching mindless TV. These habits didn’t serve me, and certainly didn’t serve me being my personal best.

NSA/SRI made me aware of those habits and behaviors and the physical anchors that were in my bodymind. When I could isolate the feelings in my body I was able to transform them into energy that was more useful to me. I noticed how people would react to my uncalled for reactions. I also began moving my body more, and I didn’t have the need to shut the world out or protect myself, which allowed me to start feeling what my body needed in regards to food and exercise. I became more aware of myself internally which led to better choices. Discovering myself and developing new strategies to uncover more and more of my authentic self have been essential and freeing in my personal growth. I was able to use those strategies to create better habits for myself.

I would like to share with you my number one most helpful healing habit. In times of good or bad, joy or sorrow, physical triumph or defeat, confusion or certainty I have learned to put my hands on my body, put movement and breath into the area and listen and connect. This is a series of exercises called Somato Respiratory Integration (SRI) and along with NSA it is the hallmark here at Sea Change. Why make this a daily ritual? The answer is simple. The more you know about yourself and your patterns the easier it is to create effortless change. I won’t lie to you, sometimes it takes courage to do this. Sometimes I would avoid it until my body wouldn’t allow me to anymore. Fortunately, now I have made it a daily ritual, a habit.

I encourage you all to take your next step on your wellness journey and create new habits for healing. A new study published in the British Medical Journal supports the scientific evidence provided by previous studies that justifies the use of folic acid as a cheap and simple way of reducing the risk of heart disease and strokes. Aiming at clarifying the issue, Dr David Wald, a heart expert, and his colleagues examined all the evidence from different studies to see whether raised homocysteine is a cause of cardiovascular disease. The authors of the study say that since folic acid reduces homocysteine concentrations, it follows that increasing folic acid consumption will reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. The researchers are of the view that there is enough evidence to justify action on lowering homocysteine concentrations.
