Antibiotics: Overuse and Misuse Make Them Less Effective

As children begin to head back to school this fall, let us all carefully consider their health and the actions we take for on their behalf. It is common knowledge that antibiotics have been misused and overused. Perhaps shedding light on this problem will cause our community to be healthier this school year and for years to come.
The purpose of an antibiotic is to assist the body in killing off a population of bacteria. Notice - I did not say virus.
Viral infections do not respond to antibiotics except to further weaken the immune system. According to the CDC, using antibiotics only reduces the symptoms by a day or two at best.
Commonly, secondary problems arise from repeated antibiotic use. Using antibiotics too much or too often reduces their effectiveness and can cause a problem called “antibiotic resistance.” Studies show that 50 million antibiotic prescriptions written per year are unnecessary. Research also concludes that 10-40% of antibiotics are used improperly. For example, the common cold does not require antibiotics, yet each year 17 million doses are prescribed for people with colds.
There are a few simple strategies you can employ immediately to decrease the incidence and risk of sickness related to antibiotic use in your family. Place optimum health and wellbeing at the top of your priority list. Wellness extends beyond prevention. Don’t wait until a problem or symptom - such as a runny nose, pain, fatigue, vomiting - arises. Dissipate your stress and tension with regular Network Spinal Analysis Care. Vitamin D and Sunshine Improves Your Health

When NBC News reported on the research of Dr. Michael Holick of Boston University, who studies the benefits of Vitamin D as produced by sensible sun exposure, the reporter was scolded by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).
According to the AAD, the information “endangers America’s health” using the logic that once people hear that a little bit of sun may be healthy, they will use it as an excuse to be in the sun excessively.
The AAD’s campaign to keep Americans out of the sun to avoid skin cancer has been a huge success, with many Americans now avoiding the sun or using sunblock regularly. Holick, however, says the advice is too extreme and has led to Vitamin D deficiency in millions of Americans.
Every cell requires Vitamin D. While it was once thought that Vitamin D was only useful in preventing the bone disease, rickets, it is now known that Vitamin D is required by every cell and tissue in the body. Along with helping to prevent osteoporosis, Vitamin D is necessary to prevent heart disease, breast and prostate cancers and high blood pressure.
Many experts now say that at least 1,000 international units (I.U.) of Vitamin D are necessary daily, an amount that either requires mega-supplementation or moderate sun exposure.
